Mido eyewear show 2016

#NeverEndingWonder

The Mido exhibition held in Milan every year is one of the world’s most important eyewear exhibitions in the world. And of course team Otticanet could not miss out on it! The exhibition lasted for three days and we were present during the whole weekend. This year Mido was divided into 6 different sections: Design Lab, More!, Tech, Fashion District, Lenses and Fair East Pavilion.
So what did we see and what did we order? Unfortunately we cannot show you just yet as most of the collections remain secret until they are officially launched, furthermore taking photos is not well-seen inside the halls.

What we will talk about are trends and there are a few very bright shining ones for the upcoming summer.

Double coloured lenses
Do you want to stand out this season? With one of the summer’s biggest trends being bi-coloured lenses you will definitely shine bright. Maison Christian Dior goes all in on this trend and presents a range of sunglasses that have a shaded lens combined with a mirrored one. The bright pastel and neon mirrored lenses are paired with softer grey and green lenses to give the best of two worlds.

Pantos
The last seasons we have heard a lot about this mysterious style called Pantos. What are they and where do they come from? The origin of the Pantos is a bit vague, some say they first appeared in the 30’s, others in the 50’s. They can however be identified with the classic American style that you often see in the movies from the 50’s and 60’s. Round, often in acetate, the Pantos has got a keyhole bridge and sits a bit lower on the nose compared to other round models. The sides are higher, the top is sligthly flat and the bottom is bit pointed.  2016’s version of the Pantos suits both men and women and gives a trendy and intellectual look to the wearer.

Metals and double bridges
Metals are still going strong this season in all shapes and so does the double bridge. These two trend have now been combined in one offering as many brands offers metal frames with a double bridge. Carrera presents their Maverick collection that includes more classical styles for their fans. Police goes wild on all trends with their Police Offside 6 SPL 158 with cut-out, a metal frame with a panto-shape and double bridge.

Cat-eyes and Cut-outs
Cut-outs and Cat-eyes goes hand in hand this season so be prepared to see a lot of fun feline-inspired sunglasses on the streets this summer. Marc Jacobs has gone through a complete make-over for the upcoming season and is hotter than ever. In this collection you will be able to find lot’s of styles that will bring out your inner cat. Fendi has been rising the last seasons and is one of the trendiest collections of this season. Combining all the trends of the season in one pair of sunglasses Fendi Eyeshine FF 0177/S.

Gold and Blue
These are THE colours of the season. Most brands showed a range of sunglasses (and eyeglasses) in blue or gold. Maison Margiela by Mykita has added a dark blue version to all their existing styles. Linda Farrow is going all gold, they even held a party during Mido where everything was coloured by this precious colour; we are talking both drinks and cupcakes! Blue is the colour of Revo and this season is no different, along with the new styles released we are really looking forward to the collaboration with Bono and the Buy Vision Give Sight campaign that will soon be released on Otticanet
